What To Expect At A Gong Bath

I’ve never been to a Gong Bath before. What does it involve?

A gong bath (or sound bath) is a form of group sound therapy which uses a gong, or several gongs, in order to help participants enter a state of deep relaxation. Many find them incredibly useful for letting go of the stresses and strains of modern-day living, and the strong vibrations from the instruments can be very healing.

Those attending are encouraged to lie on the floor (or seated if lying is not possible), close their eyes and listen to the various instruments being played. Try not to open your eyes (eye pillows are recommended) and allow yourself to be taken along with the ebb and flow of the sound.
After a time, you will gradually drift into a deeply relaxed, dreamlike state, whilst emerging later feeling energised and refreshed.

When should I arrive?

The sound baths start at 7pm on Friday evenings and last for around 1 hour. It is advisable that you arrive a few minutes early so that you can make yourself comfortable and allow yourself time to settle before we begin.

Is it safe? Do I need to take any precautions?

For the overwhelming majority of people, sound baths are completely safe, with no negative side effects. However, it is generally advised that you do not take part if you are either pregnant, have heart complaints or suffer from seizures. Please contact me directly if you have any particular questions about this.

What happens when the sound bath is over?

At the end of the session, you may feel slightly disoriented or have a slight headache. Don’t worry - this is quite normal! We provide a refreshing cup of herbal tea to bring you back to normality, and it’s recommended that you avoid alcohol for 24 hours following the session.

Do I need to bring any equipment?

No special equipment is needed in order to enjoy the benefits of a sound bath. However, something comfortable to lie on (such as a yoga mat), as well as a blanket to cover yourself with, is a good idea. Eye pillows can be great too, as they prevent the temptation of being able to open your eyes, which helps you to sink deeper into the vibrations.
